Rwanda is probably best-known today because of the
genocide perpetrated against the Tutsi people by their Hutu neighbors
in the early 1990s. Since the official end of the war, Rwanda has
faced ongoing economic and social fall-out, including remaining militia
forces and large numbers of refugees. As the nation struggles to
rebuild, the emphasis is on creating sustainable institutions and
building economic and social capacity.
